REJOINDER: Abirem Council Of Elders & Constituency Executives Call On President Akufo-Addo To Re-Appoint DCE

Several publications on some online portals on 20th February 2021 claiming that the Abirem NPP has thrown its weight behind the former DCE, Mr. Remond Nana Damptey, to be reappointed is untrue and highly implausible.

The said release was fabricated with only six (6) executives out of the 17 executives and did not seek the consent of the Constituency Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Deputy Organiser, Youth Organisers, Nasara Coordinators, Treasurer, Financial Secretary and Communications Director. It is perceived that the release was concocted to serve a malicious purpose of selfish persons.

It is evident that the hard work of the President was highly appreciated by the Ghanaian populace, hence the renewal of his mandate with over 500,000 vote difference and that if an appointee wants to be retained, the fellow must prove to be worthwhile.

We emphatically maintian that several reasons make it impossible for the former DCE to be reappointed;

1. Under the leadership of the former DCE, there was a total disconnect between the Assembly and the party. Hence, constituency leadership had to struggle to get information on happenings in order to promote the activities of the party.

2. The former DCE is not in touch with the party's grassroot. That is to say, the former DCE spent most of his weekends outside the constituency and did not make time to attend functions of our party faithfuls-Funerals, weddings, naming ceremonies, etc. He never stays at the Constituency during weekends. This issue was raised at our Constituency Executive meeting and our MP pleaded with him to give the Constituency 2 weekends each month in order for us to attend programmes together. A suggestion which fell on the rocks and didn't see the light of day. A total disregard for authority.

3. Hon. Remond Nana Damptey did not take active part in the just ended elections. The former DCE only joined the campaign team when some ministers and bigwigs did. Something that should not be countenanced under any terms.

4. The former DCE, agained, sabotaged party faithfuls who toiled for the party to win power in the last elections. For instance, our Constituency IT Cordinator, Mr. Eric Duah, who has been working at the Birim North District Assembly since September, 2020, has had his salary blocked by the former DCE for no perceptible reasons.

5. The former DCE has adopted a divide and rule tactic that has brought disunity among the Constituency Executives, hence only six (6) out of seventeen (17) are seeking for his reappointment.

*In breaking the eight (8)*, the party needs someone who is well accepted by the grassroot to represent the President at the Assembly. We, therefore, unambiguously call on the President *NOT* to reappoint Mr. Remond Nana Damptey to help save the party in the Abirem Constituency.
