COVID-19: Safety Of Kids Doesn't Depend Solely On Gov't - Child Rights Advocate Charges

Bright Appiah, Executive Director of Child Rights International, has called on parents to assist the government by educating their children on the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic and its precautionary protocols.

Students and pupils at Kindergarten, Primary and Junior High Schools resumed classes on Monday, January 18, 2021 after 10 months long stay in the house due to the pandemic.

Following the reopening of schools, there are concerns over whether or not the pupils, particularly those at lower Primary and Kindergarten, should be allowed back to school as critics argue they may not observe the safety protocols, hence fearing the danger of being exposed to the disease.

Broaching the issue on Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', the Executive Director of Child Rights International believes the safety of the children doesn't solely depend on the government but also parents have a significant role to play.

He advised the parents to complement the efforts of the government by purchasing PPEs such as nose masks and hand sanitizers for their children and further keeping a vigilant eye on them ensuring they don't disregard the protocols.

''So, we need to provide education for our children to understand the consequences of the COVID and I think that parents are in a better position to do that. So, parents must also take the responsibility of educating their children and then also, in complementing the efforts of government; they should provide some of the PPEs to the children so that the children, on a frequent basis, can change their nose masks, can also use the sanitizer to, on a large scale, protect our children'', he said.
