Life Returns To Normalcy In Nkoranza

Brisk social and economic activities have bounced back in Nkoranza and its environs in the Bono East Region as life returned to normalcy with residents going about their usual daily activities.

The youth of the area two days ago clashed with the Police over the death of Alfred Donkor, and the attack resulted in the death of one person while seven others who sustained various degrees of injury in the process were hospitalized at the Nkoranza St. Theresa’s Catholic Hospital for treatment.

Late Donkor, aged 27 and a native of Nkoranza disappeared and lost his life suspiciously while in Police custody assisting in investigation into alleged armed-robbery cases in the area.

His lifeless body identified with gunshot wounds was found in the bush at the outskirt of Nkoranza five days ago.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) observed during checks in the town that vehicular and human activities were visible on the streets with most shops opened and school children in their uniforms, while barricades had been removed from the streets.

Abel Acheampong, a carpenter told the GNA “I feel safe now working at my shop, unlike the past two days when tensions were high and people lived in fear and insecurity”.

Abdul Yusif, a 'Pragya' (tricycle) rider, however, complained about the presence of Police personnel at the barriers mounted at the entry and existing points of Nkoranza town, saying their presence and constant checks and searches appeared intimidating.

Jasmine Baffour, a Mobile Money vendor also said, "now I would say the town is cool and business activities are moving briskly" because “we heard the youth was going to protest again yesterday, hence most of the shops were closed”.

But the Police-military presence in the area remained visible to enforce law and order for the prevalence of peace.
