Brother of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, Philip Basoah has debunked reports that the lawmaker collapsed in Parliament and was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital before sadly passing on.

Responding to rumour put out by the Speaker of Parliament that the Kumawu legislator collapsed in Parliament on Friday March 23, 2023 Solomon Basoah described the account of Speaker Bagbin as false and misleading.

“I heard the Speaker say that my brother collapsed in Parliament. That is far from the truth. My brother went to Parliament on Thursday [March 23] and returned home and the houseboy was expecting him to wake up on Friday [March 24] and when he didn’t come out,” the brother of the late MP told Accra based Citi Fm.

He continued that the houseboy thereby called people to help break the MP’s door and saw him unconscious on his bed and took him to the hospital.

Solomon Basoah further stated that when they broke his door and found him unconscious on his bed, “they took him to the LEKMA Hospital and then to Euracare Ghana Hospital, and finally to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where he died.”

He also dismissed the widely circulated rumour that the late lawmaker was brought in an ambulance to vote to approve President Akufo-Addo’s six new ministerial nominees.

“It is never true that he was brought in an ambulance to Parliament to come and vote to approve President Akufo-Addo’s ministerial nominees.”

Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh also denied such report that his colleague collapsed in Parliament.

He mentioned that all the incident that led to his death happened outside parliament.

The incumbent Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri pointed out that his colleague MP and course mate at the University of Cape Coast did not die a happy man as a result of some issues he had encountered in his constituency which always kept him sad.

In the 2020 election Basoah was given a stiff competition by an Independent from the NPP stock creaming off substantial votes.

He dedicated the last victory in the voting for the approval of the six new ministers and Justices of the Supreme Court to the late Basoah.

Philip Basoah, aged 53 was pronounced dead on the dawn of Tuesday, March 28, exactly a week after the passing of Dr. Anthony Osei Akoto, another stalwart of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
