Vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has emphasized the crucial role students play in shaping Ghana's future.
Addressing the 58th National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Annual Residential Congress under the theme "Depoliticising Education and Upholding Integrity: The Role of Students and Stakeholders for National Developments", Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, stressed NUGS leadership should prioritize serving members over personal or partisan interests.
"NUGS is not and must not be seen as a vehicle for self-aggrandizement or the furthering of personal or partisan ambitions”, he noted.
The former local NUGS President at KNUST, NAPO commended the student movement's history of vocal participation in national issues.
He encouraged students to engage in constructive criticism of government policies and support beneficial initiatives.
The former Education Minister also highlighted the importance of student involvement in the 2024 general elections, citing the impact of the election's outcome on their future.
"I am fully convinced that the NPP, under a Dr. Bawumia presidency, offers the students of this country the best opportunities to realize their fullest potential in the 21st century."
Furthermore, the Manhyia South MP urged NUGS leaders to promote critical thinking and engagement among Gen Z voters, ensuring their voices are heard and help shape the country.
