Voter Register Will Be Fully Ready in its "Robust and Credible Form" - Jean Mensa Assures

As the Electoral Commission engages the various political parties ahead of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections, the Chairperson of the Commission has revealed that, 99% of the discrepancies detected by the EC during the voter exhibition exercise have been duly rectified.

In engagement with all political parties at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, October 1, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs. Jean Mensa, stated that, the discrepancies detected in all 40, 000 plus polling stations have been resolved since August 2024.

“It is important to note that the very onset of today’s meeting that we have made significant progress towards cleaning the provisional Voters Register and ridding it of discrepancies since it was first exhibited in all 40,000 plus polling stations in August, 2024,” the EC Chairperson remarked.

The Electoral Commission engaged all political parties on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 following series of allegations meted out by the largest opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) where they stated that the voters’ register is unfit for purpose following some discrepancies they had detected during the voter exhibition exercise conducted by the EC in August, 2024.

The NDC has, therefore, made several calls on the EC to allow for a forensic audit into the register in order to clear every form of doubt as the country prepares to go to the polls in December.

“As a Commission, we can confidently state that 99% of the discrepancies detected to date have been resolved," she stated.

The EC has engaged the various political parties to upfate them on the progress made by the Commission thus far, to assure the various stakeholders that the Commission is committed to producing a credible, robust and transparent voters register.

The December 2024 general elections is being keenly contested with about 13 Presidential candidates wishing to be voted for as President. As the campaigns see a heightened momentum, questions have been raised about the credibility of the voter's register.

However, the EC maintains that, the register will be fully ready in its robust and credible form.
